Out Run Arcade Outrun Car Race

Take the red Ferrari down Coconut Beach, on your wrist.

This animated watch face is the race view of the 1986 arcade classic OutRun. Every 20 seconds a new race starts under the START banner: the flagman points, the lights go red, red, green, and he waves you away. Then it's the open road, with palm trees rushing past, the bushes and beach huts, the turn signs and the Diving School board. The sea comes right up to the road, the clouds sweep round as the road bends, and crests hide what lies beyond them. You weave between Beetles, lorries, a Porsche and a Corvette, and brake to a stop under the GOAL banner.

Six different versions of Coconut Beach take turns, one each race: the crest, the long left round the bay, the hills, the S-bends, the coast and the palm avenue. Each has its own bends, hills, roadside and traffic, so the drive is different every time you look.

The HUD is the game's own lettering:
• TIME — the clock, in the big yellow figures, following your 12/24-hour setting
• SCORE — today's steps
• LAP — the date
• km/h — the Ferrari's speed as it pulls away in LOW and shifts into HIGH, with the rev bar climbing beside it
• Your heart rate, next to a heart
• Your battery, as a bar of the same segments as the revs
• An optional step goal ring round the edge, which you can turn off in the watch face editor

The race follows the clock, so wherever you look the Ferrari is exactly where the time says it should be.

In always-on mode the race goes dark and only a dim clock stays lit, gently shifting position to protect your screen.
