Difficult to get payment card set up. Wouldn't accept my phone number so had to use someone else's secondary number. Occasionally still gives prompts in Chinese, though making payments is mostly in English. Anxiety inducing as you've no idea if it'll work to make payments before you actually get to China. But it worked fine when in the country. First payment took ages as it needed validation from the bank, then others were simpler. Still no way it's any quicker than simply tapping a card.

We have just returned from a three week trip to China and I can honestly say that Alipay has been fabulous from start to finish. Yes, I had to install the app before leaving home and yes I had to input various personal data including passport and card details, but it is a payment system so I wouldn't expect anything less. Alipay was accepted wherever we went, including off the beaten track so to speak. We either scanned the sellers terminal or they scanned my phone. Easy to use, many thanks 👍

It is the worst payment app out there. I downloaded the app and set up my account before going to China. Had everything verified, mobile, email, ID document, biometrics, card authorisation all complete. In China, every payment was rejected big and small. Tried online help, it was AI of no use at all. Called customer services. Yes, my account was blocked because of a suspicious transaction for using it the first time !!!@...no space to continue, I gave up, cancelled a/c, uninstalled the app.
