About this app

Oto is an app for people living with tinnitus, the ringing or buzzing you hear in your ears. You get it through a participating audiology clinic, and your audiologist stays involved while you use it.

At the center of the app is a library of calming sounds you can listen to any time, day or night. Around the sounds sit short guided sessions and lessons about tinnitus.

What's in the app
• Calming sounds: white, pink and brown noise, nature and environmental sounds, and layered soundscapes you can mix yourself
• Volume control and an optional sleep timer, so you can leave sounds running overnight
• Short guided sessions of about 5 to 10 minutes, drawing on cognitive behavioral techniques. They sit alongside the sounds, as part of the plan your clinic sets up
• Short lessons about tinnitus, so you understand what is going on and why
• Optional reminders, private notes, and simple progress tracking you and your audiologist can look at together

How you use it
1. Your audiologist sets up your account and shows you where to start
2. Listen to the sounds when you want them, and work through the sessions at the pace you agree together
3. Your audiologist reviews how you are getting on and adjusts your plan

How do I get Oto?
Oto comes as part of a tinnitus care plan from a participating audiology clinic. There is no separate app subscription to buy.

If your audiologist or ENT has not mentioned Oto, ask them about it. You can also find a participating clinic here:
https://joinoto.com/providers

What does it cost?
Your clinic sets the price of the care plan, and the Oto app is included. Your clinic also sets how long you keep access: most give around 12 months, and some give lifetime access. Full detail here:

Oto has been a lifeline for me. I've been experiencing 24/7 bilateral tinnitus for the last 2 weeks and I couldn't see how I could live with it. I found the app through Glenn Schweitzer's blog and so glad I did. The app is a blend of sound therapy, cbt and mindfulness. The narrator is calming. I know it will take a long time to habituate but this app gives me the hope I can. George + Ed are very responsive to suggestions to improve the app. I've signed up to premium and it's a very fair price.

Hi Emma, sorry you've had such a tough few weeks. I'm so pleased that you've found our app to be helpful. Habituation is absolutely achievable and I am sure that you will get there! Let us know if we can help with anything else.

I used the free trial, then stopped to consider whether or not I wanted to pay for it, at £9.99 a month. When I reinstalled the app, it was £39.99 a month. A reduced rate therapist may workout cheaper here, and will be miles better than an app. I don't want people to have to work for free, but £39.99 a month for an app, is an attempt to cash-in on desperate people. The price stays pretty well hidden, until the last minute as well. It just doesn't sit well with me.

Hi Jamie. Thanks for the review. Ed here - Oto’s co-founder. We increased the price to incorporate a ton of new features we introduced recently. As of this week, the subscription now includes a 1 hour tinnitus consultation with an expert, regular group coaching sessions & more. I’d love to hear your feedback, feel free to reach out: ed@joinoto.com

An app that advertises and promotes a good coping mechanism for tinnitus sufferers, then snipes you from afar with an extorsional amount of money per month. No, you don't get a sample, no, you don't get to try it "no obligation", you register and have to subscribe first for your "free" trial. Only hoping that after 7 days, you forget about it and they take nearly £40 from you. A gym subscription, a good meal, 1/4 tank of fuel, £40??? Per month? Are you serious? I'd consider £5 a month.

Hi Gareth, thanks for the review. You get a 7 day free trial to try everything without paying. You won’t forget about it because we send you a reminder before the free trial ends. Our program is still 4x cheaper than you’d pay for in person therapy. Would love to chat about this in more detail if you’d be open to it? hello@joinoto.com
