About this app

MEMENTO MORI is the Stoic idea meaning "Remember death." Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor and philosopher, reflected on it to stay grounded and not lose track of meaningful things in the stress, troubles or celebrations of life. Steve Jobs, Apple founder, was known meditate on our mortality as well. By why? And how?

Stoicism is famous for its practical way for life and resilient mental peace. In search of meaning and happiness, Stoic philosophy has guided people for ages. Its core idea is to make the best of what is in your control and not let anything outside control bother you, like opinions, weather, etc. It redefines happiness as internal exercise, that comes from balancing desires, thoughts, and actions. In fact, Stoic philosophy is the foundation of more modern mental health therapies to overcome depression and anxiety, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Viktor Frankl's Logotherapy. As Nassim Taleb says, “A Stoic is a Buddhist with attitude.”

Designed for modern lifestyle, discover the practical power of Stoicism with just five minutes a day to beat anxiety and practice a life of peace & purpose. And it gets even more soothing with the natural themes and sound. Embrace your limitless possibilities with Mori!

This app operates as well as another app called Stoa, but it costs a bit less. I still use both, as they are both really effective, but I feel more of a pull toward this one. It has more hands-on tasks, which I think is really effective for some people, it has journaling, and it comes with resources of the important canonical texts built in.

App kept crashing within minutes after using. I felt like it was overwhelmingly busy, somewhat confusing to navigate with the interface feeling cluttered and busy. It was unappealing to look at and frustrating to use. It needs a major makeover with something more simplistic, less distracting and less problematic. It was just all over the place, jumping from one thing to the next, and then shuts down completely on you. Additionally, you need to pay for the subscription to use most features.

The nightly journal aspect is my favorite part. It's the same prompt every day, but it's such a firmly gentle way of both motivating your future self while forgiving your past self. It also encourages being a force of good for the people you love, instead of just expressing gratitude. It's a great way to decenter myself while improving myself.
