On this dial, a wall of dressed stone in the style of gold maki-e lacquer rises on the left under an old pine, mist lies beyond, and the fire burns on the paving at the wall's foot. The right half is bare black lacquer with polished gold batons, doubled at twelve, and a gold date window at six.

🔥 A FIRE THAT LIVES
The flame is never still. It moves through seven painted flame shapes over each minute, leans and sways, swells and sinks back, and its tongues stream upward and break at the tips. The glow on the stones and the paving rises and fades with it. Sparks lift from the fire one at a time and fade as they climb, and a faint fire-lit haze rises from the flame tips into the dark.
