About this game

★ Top Developer (awarded 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015) ★
AI Factory's Backgammon is the best free Backgammon game on Android!

Backgammon is a game of skill and strategy; one of the world's classic parlour board games, played for recreation and gambling. Like Mahjong, Backgammon is played in social groups in coffee houses and bars. Historically, variants of this game are believed to have been played in Mesopotamia and Egypt thousands of years ago, then by the Romans and later in India. It also spread to East Asia, but was largely replaced by Xiangqi (Chinese chess). It is now very popular in the West.

The ads I can live with — I’d even pay to remove them — but the game feels loaded. The higher the challenge level, the more the dice seem fixed in favour of the AI. I know some will say it’s just luck, but these are computer-generated rolls, not physical dice. Too often the AI gets exactly what it needs at the perfect moment, regardless of how well I play. It stops feeling like skill and starts feeling predetermined. To me, it genuinely feels rigged.

We understand that conclusion, shared by very few, but it is an illusion. It just plays a strong statistical game. It puts its pieces where it can get easier rolls. We use an industry-standard LCR RNG. You can run our definitive tests proving no cheating at aifactory.co.uk/bg.htm. All backgammon software is accused of cheating. Really cheating? No.

It seems very realistic to me. It's very quick and a challenging opponent. It seems to throw quite a lot of doubles but it does nor seem to favour itself. I get as many. I like the auto-bear off function though you have to be quick to cancel it if you want to get a double in during the final stages. PS. The auto-bear off function does not always use the best strategy and can sometimes lose in a close endgame. The computer's own bearing off is less than optimal, at least up to level 3.

The game is written well and whilst the options are good and has a fairly polished feel, it is way too easy on the most difficult setting. The CPU player makes fundamental mistakes that makes it no fun playing against. I.e... Accepting a double when most pieces are off and it has no pieces off; keeping pieces in your home board and conceding 3 points rather than 2, etc... Annoying! (Edit... 2 years on after you replied, and is still exhibiting the same issues with fundamental CPU mistakes)

Thank you for your review. We fully acknowledge that there are defects in the AI strategy and we expect to improve these areas later. Unfortunately we're a very small, very busy team with lots of apps to look after so we can't give a timeline.
